The Garden

November 13, 2022

It was a Sunday afternoon November 13, 2022. The Garden was packed. IQ had 24 points, I happened to capture the jump shot that won the game- our favorite and most loved, Immanuel Quickley. Funny side note, New Yorkers love hot dogs at The Garden for breakfast.

Quick is the balance between confident and teachable. He moves with grace, lives up to his name, he attacks the rim fearlessly, he inspires me. His NBA career belongs at ‘The Garden’. We all know that.

The Garden

January 18, 2022

My first New York Knicks game was court side at ‘The Garden’ January 18, 2022. I had just moved to New York from LA and had been a long time fan of the team - I have to give flowers to my best friend at the time André Anderson, he introduced me to the franchise in 2018. I remember sitting down in my seat, taking off my very necessary winter coat and seeing some of my favorite players come to life. #9 and I shared the same jersey, Immanuel Quickley - my favorite Knick player and Thibs. It was completely surreal - I was taking in the moment, commenting on the production, as tipoff was only a few minutes out. I was sitting back in my chair, took a sip of my marg and I caught the side profile of round orange glasses and a Knicks toque a few seats down. I am going to be watching my favorite game with Spike Lee.

People often ask, what was your experience living in New York? Imagine having 20 million neighbors, it was funny, entertaining, wonderful, lonely, amazing, hot, cold, tasty, smelly, alarming, it was a capsule of everything you would expect. No matter who you are - realities of New York are the subway, the dreadful winter, the culture, your go-to slice and the love of basketball.

SoHo, New York

My favorite thing to do in New York with my Mom was comb the streets of SoHo. She has the best style which gives her a pass to unapologetically snap photos of people. She caught this while we were waiting in line at Aimé Leon Dore.

There are certain places that instantly give you the feeling. Sharing an experience centered around great food, friends, loved ones and overall ambiance. The music was old hip hop, a lot of Biggie and Tupac, the culture is rich from the windows to the walls. The ornate mirror frames, the neon signs barely reflecting off the wine glasses and chandeliers, almost darkness inside, the floral wall paper, the smell of Bolognese and carbs. Sauce has layers, I can only imagine how many times they have simmered and seared, uncorked and poured.

I had my best nights in New York at Sauce - my Mom and Dad were in town. The two people that taught me to see, hear and taste the details. You can only imagine the conversation - Sauce is not just good food, its a great feeling. I took everyone I knew - it was not only the best, it was familiar and familiar is good.

October 10, 2022

There were days that I lived in New York when I would go for long walks, trying to consume as much of the city as I could. How many new streets could I wander in a Sunday afternoon. I felt like every day I was breaking world records for the amount of days spent admiring the city. It had been raining for quite a few days and finally had stopped, I decided to go to the ball game. What I love about live sports - it feels like you have 46,537 people in your corner.

Aaron Judge broke the decades-old American League record for the most home runs hit in a single season that night, 62! The team was smashing the ball as far as the eye could (and couldn’t) see. If you ever get the chance to catch a game, stay until the end. Hint, Frank Sinatra.

December 11, 20221

I had visited New York in Spring 2021, the tulips gardens were absolutely incredible. The dedication that a city like New York takes to keep the beauty alive is unmatched. The collective effort, the volunteers and the community comes together on a different level. I flew in from LA and checked into my hotel in Nolita, met a friend in the city - he was my best friend. We loved to wander, anywhere we went, we found the places, actually he did but - I always saw what he saw and enjoyed them as much. Particularly, we loved eating and drinking outside - the city takes the tiniest available square feet and makes you feel comfy. Which takes us to Rintinin. April 24th 2021, we sat and drank a glass of wine and ate olives at 11:30p tucked in an outdoor booth, grazed by passerby’s and just happy. Probably discussing one of our many dreams or wishful ideas.

Fast forward to December 2021, I had just moved to New York, the sadness was overwhelming. I was walking home - confused by every intersection, the wandering felt lost and frustrating, lonely actually. I remember looking up from my phone trying to match my map to the intersection and I just started to laugh. RinTinTin, the corner of Spring and Elizabeth. Familiarity feels like a life raft. I was okay and from that point forward I knew I would always be okay.

Tulum, Mexico

September 17, 2022

We spent a month in Tulum last year. Part of me wants to forget, other parts of me - never. This night particularly felt like the world was spinning faster than I could comprehend. Tiny mirrors reflecting the lights, the lights in sync with the music, and people just grooving together, free. The rain came down in sheets, I hid my Comme De Garçons in the jungle and danced barefoot - I was safe, I was fearless, I was alive. The rain water had nowhere to go, puddles were making the black and white checkered tile floor extremely slippery, people did not care. It is a moment that will live rent free in my head for the rest of my life.

Tulum resembled me, it felt free, it felt safe, I dream of these days we spent together. My life was was fresh pressed juice, midnight poolside stargazing, cenotes, bike rides and mezcal- it was the best month of my life.

Philosophy of Art

One thing we know is time stops for nothing . Time takes over and forces us to continue moving. Restaurants close, games end, flights depart, the sun sets. It is a constant change, art is the only thing that keeps you present forever. Here I am, pausing time through art. The only way I know to experience my favorite memory over and over again is creating art that transports me back to that exact feeling, taste, sound and space. I keep time in my back pocket, motivated to live in the present but to take the most special moments with me everywhere I go. That is the inspiration behind my collection.
